Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo calls for Prostitution Law Reform in Namibia

Prominent legal practitioner Kadhila Amoomo has called for the regulation of prostitution in Namibia, arguing that the current approach of criminalization is ineffective and dangerous.

Amoomo warns that ignoring the issue does not eliminate it but rather pushes it underground, increasing risks for both sex workers and the general public.

Amoomo said this on his Facebook page this morning.

Despite its illegal status, prostitution remains a reality in Namibia, with many individuals engaging in the trade in secrecy.

“The lack of regulation exposes sex workers to violence and exploitation while also posing public health risks,” Amoomo stated.

He emphasized that legal reforms would provide safeguards, ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of all involved.

A key concern is the safety of sex workers, who often face violence and abuse without legal protection.

Amoomo argues that regulation would allow law enforcement to implement safety measures, reducing violence and addressing associated illegal activities such as human trafficking and drug abuse.
