The BARHP warm-up did exactly what it was meant to— lull us with an open hand to the desert for boogie. Four local legends—Bisskitt, Kalypso, Lurch, and Shafa—took turns behind the decks at Goodfellas, delivering solid sets and a taste of what’s to come from Between a Rock and Hard Place 2025.

Bisskitt set the tone before sunset, an incense stick alight and an electric set that made us forget we were still in the city. Kalypso followed, spinning continental grooves, a perfect slow burn into the rhythm-heavy magic that Shafa laid down next. By that point, it was all about the music and Lurch understood the assignment — good beats, good people, and a good dust stomping to look forward to.

As the night deepened, every foot tap, every shoulder shimmy, every stank face at a groovy rhythm, whispered one thing: we’re ready for the desert. Shafa and YD Fresh pulled out a surprise back-to-back set, closing things off with a bang and leaving us sufficiently warmed up for two nights at the foot of Spitzkoppe, in silly outfits and dancing with our friends.
If this was just the warm-up, BARHP from 25 – 27 April is going to be something else.
