Last year, whispers of Microsoft’s intention to introduce a mobile game store began circulating amid the company’s efforts to finalize the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. During this period, Xbox head Phil Spencer openly mentioned that a mobile game store was in development.

Fast forward to mid-2024, Microsoft has now officially announced that its Xbox Games Store will soon be available for mobile platforms in July.

Highlighting a commitment to inclusivity, the president of Xbox disclosed that their forthcoming game store won’t be confined to Android and iOS devices as a standalone application. Rather, the store will premiere on the web, guaranteeing accessibility across all devices and regions without limitations.

It’s uncertain how the Xbox Games Store will handle game distribution via the web. However, cloud gaming is poised to play a significant role, given its prominent position in Microsoft’s gaming endeavors over the past few years.
