Pangolin

Every three minutes, a pangolin is poached—either for illegal bushmeat or to supply the Asian market with its highly sought-after scales. This alarming reality underscores the urgent need to raise awareness for these incredible and unique mammals.

World Pangolin Day, observed annually on the third Saturday of February (15 February 2025), is an opportunity to highlight the severe threats pangolins face, particularly poaching and illegal wildlife trafficking in Namibia and beyond. Often referred to as “scaly anteaters,” pangolins are the most trafficked mammals in the world due to the high demand for their scales in traditional medicine and their meat as a delicacy.

This important day promotes conservation efforts, educates the public, and inspires action to protect pangolins from extinction. Wild Africa is dedicated to advocating for stronger wildlife protection laws, supporting pangolin rescue and rehabilitation centers, and raising awareness through events, social media campaigns, and educational initiatives.

We invite you to join Wild Africa in celebrating World Pangolin Day and to help spread awareness.
