We See If It’s K*K: Shrinking

You ever have on of those series you watched that makes you wish you had that Men in Black device that can erase memories so you can watch it again with a fresh mind? 

That was Ted Lasso for me… the show about the American Football coach who goes on to coach an English Football (Soccer) team. 

So when I saw, some of the people were involved with Ted Lasso, were involved with another series, I had to check it out! 

It debuted in 2023, but here I am, living under a rock only finding out about it in 2026! 

So, today for “We See if it’s K*K so you don’t have to,” we review: 

The plot of Shrinking: 

• A grieving therapist starts to break the rules by telling his clients exactly what he thinks. Jimmy has lost his wife and wants to try a new approach to his loss, but it is unclear how this will help others. 

Where do we start!? 

I mentioned people involved with Ted Lasso are also involved with Shrinking, but have a listen to WHO the creators of “Shrinking” are: 

• Bill Lawrence – Creator of Scrubs! Co-creator of Cougar Town, Spin City, Ground Floor, and of course Ted Lasso, and here’s a throwback… Clone High! 

• Jason Segal – Marshall from “How I Met Your Mother” and so many other roles! But also, writer of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets, The Five-Year Engagement, Sex Tape, Windfall… and a lot of upcoming projects! 

• Brett Goldstein – Emmy Award winning actor and comedian, probably best known for playing Roy Kent, in Ted Lasso! 

What an absolute powerhouse of creators and writers! 

Regarding the plot, Jimmy the Therapist, played by Jason Segal, recently lost his wife to a drunk driver. 

He’s in a downward spiral… it’s affecting his job and his relationship with his daughter, so Jimmy decides to change things up, and starts a new approach with his clients!  

This, along with his day to life, involving his co-workers, neighbours, and daughter, makes for a fantastic show! 

It’s funny, it’s sad, it’s heartfelt, it’s angry! It’s ticking all the boxes! 

As for the remainder of the actors, it feels like everyone was chosen to PERFECTLY fit in their role!!! 

• Jessica Williams as Gaby, a fellow therapist working with Jimmy at the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center. She is also Jimmy’s late wife’s best friend. 
• Luke Tennie as Sean, a US Military Veteran suffering from anger management issues who has sessions with Jimmy 
• Michael Urie as Brian, Jimmy’s best friend who is a lawyer. 
• Lukita Maxwell as Alice Laird, Jimmy’s teenaged daughter with whom he has a strained relationship following the passing of his wife. 
• Christa Miller as Liz, Jimmy’s next-door neighbor who also helps with looking after Alice. 

But the standout, even ABOVE the main character Jimmy, is Dr. Paul Rhodes, Jimmy’s boss/kind of friend played by Harrison Ford! He’s grumpy, he’s angry, he’s sarcastic… he’s my spirit animal! 

Harrison Ford truly is the breakout character! 

If you’re looking for a roller coaster of emotions, with characters who in someone or another you can absolutely relate to, characters who are all broken in their own ways, and a lesson worth learning here and there, then “Shrinking” is ABSOLUTELY for you! 

Our verdict:
