I’d be lying if I said my day wasn’t turned upside down when I saw what T-Pain had to say.
Now, if you don’t know (which I be slightly judgy about) who T-Pain is, very short history.
Who we all know as T-Pain, Faheem Rashad Najm, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer known for popularizing the creative use of Auto-Tune in mainstream music. We’ve learnt over the years he also has vocals of GOLD!!!! (where I had though using auto-tune was the absence of singing talent, I was proven wrong severely…) He appeared on the Masked Singer Season 1 and won the season (duh!). But his start to music was actually so much fun with I’m Sprung straight off the bat, and giving us more lifelong hits like “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)”, “Bartender” and “Can’t Believe It”, as well as collabs with Kanye West, Jamie Foxx, Chris Brown and SOOOO many more.
Over the last year or two though, he has starting spending more time behind the scenes with Nappy Boy Entertainment, which aims to give upcoming artists opportunities to make it in the music world that they might not get anywhere else, as well as having a blast with Nappy Boy Gaming, where he streams on Twitch and man, he is doing well.
But all that said, my whole world got shocked seeing this video:
@tpain I gave you all everything for 20 years. I’m grateful to each of you for making this such a great ride. Right now I just need some time to think about what’s next and what’s best for me ✌🏿
And then shortly after that, this one also popped up on my TikTok feed and the emotions started unravelling:
@tpain If I learned one thing in the last 20 years, it’s that music doesn’t live on charts. It lives in people. And this isn’t a tour, it’s a thank you to everyone that was there in 2005 and to everyone who’s just catching the wave. The TP20 Tour: Celebrating the last 20 years of T-Pain and the NEXT 20 years that nobody is ready for ✌🏿 Tickets on sale Friday ➡️ www.tpain.com/tour
Even though he is calling his 20th Anniversary Tour a celebration and a thank you to all the fans, it MAJORLY feels like a goodbye to the music industry, to focus on the other aspects of his life as well, like the businesses and his family. I might actually fully cry if that happens. So he better just surprise us with random singles whenever he feels like making music if he does end up retiring.
But T-Pain is such an icon that even until today, everyone enjoys one or more songs of his and he is continuously trending on TikTok, if not for his songs, for his gaming streaming and comedy moments. So, if you’d like to hear more of my ranting, check out my podcast below:
