The Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) hosted the 3rd International Conference on Circular Economy, Renewable Energies, and Green Hydrogen in Africa this week at the Mercure Hotel in Windhoek.
The event, organised in collaboration with the University of Rostock and funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Research, gathered regional and international experts to explore strategies for advancing sustainable industrialisation, renewable energy, and green hydrogen development across the continent.
Delivering the welcoming remarks, Dr. Budzanani Tacheba, SASSCAL’s Director of Science and Technology, highlighted the organisation’s long-standing aspiration to co-host the ICERA series — a goal first envisioned in 2023 that has now become a reality through close collaboration with the University of Rostock and the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
“This conference is more than a meeting; it is a collaboration across generations and disciplines, connecting the dots between the circular economy, renewable energy, and green hydrogen,” Dr. Tacheba said.
He reaffirmed SASSCAL’s commitment to advancing Africa’s sustainable energy transition and strengthening regional cooperation in research and innovation.
