Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa on Monday ordered NamWater to restore water supply to Rundu residents within the next two days.
This comes after residents have been without water for the past three weeks due to low pressure, forcing some to buy water, while others rely on water tanks erected at their homes as backup.
Sankwasa said he will ask the regional council chairperson and the governor to supervise the situation and provide him with feedback by Tuesday and Wednesday.
The minister said he is determined to find a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis in the Kavango East Region.
He added that the water crisis in the town has never been treated as a matter of emergency, noting that officials responsible for service delivery “start work at eight and leave at five,” treating the situation as normal, even though it is not.
The minister also questioned the leaders about their efforts to address the crisis, expressing concern that, despite Rundu being situated along the banks of the Kavango River, the town continues to face persistent water shortages.
