Flying to a holiday destination – Fun right?

No matter HOW luxurious your destination is, no matter how many activities or amazing things you have planned at your destination, its amazing how angry we get when a flight is delayed… that instantaneous rage.

But calm down, because there is delayed, and there is DELAYED!!!

A flight in China recently got delayed. Like delayed delayed!!!

They were loading passengers, like they do in Nam, on the tarmac, “loop in jou donder in” and climb a pile of stairs to get on the plane. And then as some people board the plane you’ll notice they have their traditions and superstitions when boarding flights. Some touch the door as they enter. Some say a prayer.

Not this ouma that was boarding her flight in China!

For good luck, she bliksemed a hand full of coins into the engine of the plane. She believed the gesture would ensure a safe journey.

Fortunately her geriatric throwing skills are not on par with that of a fielder on the cricket pitch, but unfortunately… one coin made it INTO the engine.

The result?

  • The plane was grounded and the flight delayed for 5 hours.
  • 150 passengers offloaded.
  • A full engine inspection by airline mechanics.

Bruh…

The total value of the coins was about 25 cents, but can you imagine the cost in time, money and safety risk that was lost!?

And if you’re wondering what happened to the ouma… NOTHING!!! She wasn’t charged!

They said “Oh but shame, her age and good intentions…” What of them!? That SURELY shouldn’t play a roll! The Wright Brothers took flight in 1903… She had MORE than enough time to realize what a damn aeroplane is!!!

So life advice if you are travelling soon… safe the coins for the wishing wells and fountains at your destination… NOT THE AIRPLANE ENGINE!

And if you’re nervous, have a dop in the airport terminal like a normal person!!!
