The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has confirmed the arrest of a private individual in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged corrupt practices involving a staff member of the Roads Authority (RA) and a supplier.

The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday and is expected to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday, 7 May 2025.

The ACC noted that the arrest marks a significant development in the investigation, which aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the operations of public institutions.

In a statement issued this week, the ACC reiterated that the investigation remains active, with further updates to be provided as new developments emerge.

This latest development follows a breakthrough last week, when the ACC seized assets worth over N$2 million.

The case centres around allegations that an invoice amounting to N$2,372,704.15 for the supply of a weighbridge to the Roads Authority was corruptly certified, despite the goods or services not being delivered.

According to the ACC, further investigations revealed that the same supplier later refurbished the old weighbridge for N$264,960.00 and reinstalled it at the Walvis Bay weighbridge in September 2021.

However, when the new weighbridge was delivered in May 2022, the old one was allegedly removed under false pretenses claiming it to be on the way to Windhoek for storage but was instead diverted and installed at Etango Petroleum (Pty) Ltd.

According to the ACC, the Roads Authority did not authorise the disposal or transfer of the old weighbridge, which is now allegedly being leased to Etango Petroleum by the supplier.

In addition to corruption, the Commission is pursuing charges of fraud, theft, and money laundering under the Anti-Corruption Act, 2003 (Act No. 8 of 2003).

The ACC commended those involved in the investigation and called on the public to continue supporting efforts to root out corruption at all levels.
