NANSO calls for public campaign on subsidised tertiary education model

todayFebruary 2, 2026

Background

The Namibia National Student Organisation is calling on the government to intensify public communication around the phased rollout of the subsidised tertiary education model, saying many students and parents still lack clear information on how the system will work.

NANSO President Dorthea Nangolo said while the education ministry has addressed the issue publicly, the information is not easily accessible to ordinary citizens who need to understand funding requirements and application processes. She proposed the use of hotlines and media programmes to improve outreach.

Nangolo also argued that the current NSFAF eligibility criteria, which the government says will remain in place in 2026, should be revised to ensure vulnerable students are not excluded.

Parliamentary committee chairperson Marlyn Mbakera said the policy remains a work in progress and will be implemented gradually as consultations continue.
