Namibia has welcomed a delegation of women from the South African Police Service (SAPS) who will be in the country until 15 August as part of South Africa’s Women’s Month celebrations. The visit, organised by SAPS, reflects strong bilateral cooperation in maintaining internal security and law enforcement.
Women’s Month in South Africa commemorates the more than 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 to protest apartheid pass laws. This year marks the 69th anniversary of the historic march and the 30th anniversary of the first official National Women’s Day, celebrated under the theme “Building Resilient Economies for All.”
Namibian Police Commissioner Johanna Ngondo highlighted the significance of the exchange, noting that the visit provides an opportunity to share experiences, best practices, and strategies to empower women in law enforcement.
The delegation will engage in workshops, community outreach programs, and joint training exercises aimed at enhancing gender equality and strengthening policing capabilities in both countries.
