Namibia and Algeria strengthen parliamentary ties at IPU Assembly

Namibia and Algeria have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva on Wednesday.

The speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, led the Namibian delegation in talks with the Speaker of the Council of the Nation of Algeria, focusing on strengthening parliamentary relations, promoting youth and women empowerment, and advancing Africa-led solutions to continental challenges.

Both sides underscored the historic and fraternal ties between the two nations, rooted in their shared liberation struggles and a mutual commitment to Africa’s unity, peace, and sustainable development.

The discussions also highlighted shared positions on key global issues, including the right to self-determination for the people of Western Sahara and Palestine.

In this regard, the two delegations agreed to re-establish the Namibia–Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group to enhance continuous inter-parliamentary engagement and cooperation.

The speakers further pledged to strengthen collaboration in governance, education, and socio-economic development, aligning their efforts with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the continent’s blueprint for inclusive growth and transformation.
