Matheus, Armas win 2025 Rössing Marathon

Jesaya Matheus won the 2025 Rössing Marathon Championship 42.2km men’s race, while Alina Armas won the women’s race at Swakopmund on Saturday.
Matheus won the men’s race, clocking at 02:15:53, while Armas crossed the finish line at 02:45:32.
Organised in partnership with Swakop Striders, the championship was held for the 34th edition under the theme “ran their own race,” as a record number of 2 037 athletes took part at Swakopmund, along with 62 000 runners who ran virtually in China.
“I am excited to congratulate all the winners and all those who have taken part in this year’s 34th Rössing National Marathon.”
“For many of us, today was a lot of fun, for others, today was a challenge like no other, but for all of us I believe this day was another step towards taking better care of ourselves.”
“The Rössing Marathon has become a popular event on the sporting calendar in Namibia, which draws runners of all skill levels, from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic amateurs,” said Rössing Uranium Managing Director, Johan Coetzee.
The marathon is one of the mine’s key annual social investment initiatives, with the entry fees going towards community initiatives.
“All the entry fees collected for the 5km fun walk go directly to the Cancer Association of Namibia in the fight against cancer.”
“The entry fees of the 10km run, together with the 42.2km marathon and the 21.1km Frank Slabbert half-marathon, are donated to the Swakop Striders Athletics Club in support of the development of local and especially less-privileged athletes,” he said.
The 42.2 km complete marathon winners walked away with N$20,000 prize monies and an added development bonus of N$20,000 each.
Coetzee said the prize money would assist the development of the winning athletes.
“These funds are aimed at assisting our winners to develop their sporting careers as Rössing Marathon champions over the remainder of the season,” said the managing director.
