SO late last night (July 10th), I found out on Instagram that we were FINALLY getting a new album from Justin Bieber. How I didn’t see anything about the promo or the jam session he was having to promote it before yesterday, I have no clue. But if I was in the US or Reykjavík, no way I’d miss this:

There were a bunch of billboards, some like this one showing the tracklist, others just promoting the album with some of the cover art. Either way, a pleasant surprise for this lovely Friday to receive this.

Now I will say, this album feels like a little bit of a mixture between his Purpose + Journals album and his Jaquavious Bieber era (those that get it, get it). There’s a lot of soul and RnB vibes coming through, but also very meaningful and special lyrical pieces (probably showcasing his more religion forward life) that give me flashbacks of the purposeful music he released with the Purpose album.

A really fun part of the album for me are the shorter bits put in there, like:

  • Standing on Business (using a trending clip of his where he is arguing with paparazzi) where he speaks to Druski
  • Soulful (being told he has soul), also in a conversation with Druski
  • Therapy Session (which I think we all need a little conversation with a friend about life) with Druski
  • Forgiveness (that was sung by Marvin Winans)
  • Glory Voice Memo (which is, as in the name, a voice memo he did singing with an acoustic guitar)
  • Zuma House (down at Zuma Beach just vibing out, like you almost walked in on him and walked away before you got caught eavesdropping)

Out of all the songs, I have a few favourites. Might not be the typical ones, or you could be into them too, but they were really nice for me:

  1. First Place
  2. Yukon
  3. 405
  4. Devotion
  5. Walking Away
  6. Go Baby
  7. Butterflies

I’m not gonna go into too much detail on how each one felt listening to it, or the background. I feel like you need to have your own listening session for it, to be honest. So check out the whole album below:
