Frans Koita, founder of DKL Africa Consultations CC, has emerged as a key mentor for young entrepreneurs navigating the often-confusing world of business. In a recent interview with Future Media, Koita shared his perspective on the National Youth Development Fund, a government initiative aimed at allocating N$257 million to viable youth-led businesses.

Koita highlighted a persistent challenge: the majority of youth lack basic business knowledge. “Less than five percent of young people are properly applying for this fund,” he noted. “Many don’t understand financial forecasts or the components of a strong business plan.” He emphasized that successful applications require more than just an idea—they demand clear problem-solving potential, community impact, and an innovative approach.

DKL Africa Consultations CC, founded in 2018, provides mentorship and practical guidance for SMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs. Koita explained that his passion for business stems from growing up in a business-oriented family and studying economics and business in China. His firm helps young applicants craft their business plans, navigate registration, banking, and financial forecasting, often leveraging AI tools to streamline the process.

While the fund offers favorable terms, including low-interest rates and no collateral, Koita cautioned against rushing applications. “Some youth are panicking because the deadlines are near,” he said. “If your idea isn’t ready or you don’t understand the operations and finances of your business, it’s better to wait for the next funding phase.” He stressed the importance of applying with ideas grounded in personal passion or real community needs, rather than generic concepts.

Koita also advised the government on improving phase two of the fund. He recommended centralized and clear information-sharing, suggesting that institutions collaborate to provide consistent guidance. He further proposed partnering with consulting and accounting firms to run online webinars and sessions, ensuring youth across the country can access practical support.

In conclusion, Koita urged young entrepreneurs to innovate within their chosen industries and identify tangible problems in their communities. “Even a simple business like a salon can stand out if it empowers others or addresses a local need,” he said. His mentorship vision is clear: equip youth with the skills, confidence, and insight to build sustainable businesses that contribute meaningfully to the economy.
