EFACT on Scared and Life in South Africa Lunch w/ Yanika

Our pets may not be able to tell us when their tummy isn’t feeling quite right, but their gut health can play an important role in their overall wellbeing.
The gut microbiome is a community of microorganisms living in your pet’s digestive system. These tiny organisms help with digestion, nutrient absorption and support the body’s natural immune function. A healthy gut can contribute to a healthy, happy pet.
A good-quality, complete and balanced diet appropriate for your pet’s species and life stage is the best place to start. Their nutritional needs are different from ours, so human foods and trendy diets aren’t always suitable.
Changing your pet’s food suddenly can upset their digestive system. If you’re introducing a new diet, gradually transition them over several days.

Fresh, clean water should always be available. Good hydration supports healthy digestion and overall wellbeing.
Some pets may benefit from probiotics or specific sources of dietary fibre. However, not every pet needs a supplement, and products can differ. It’s best to ask your veterinarian what is appropriate for your individual pet.
Your pet’s stool can give you useful clues about their digestive health. Changes in stool consistency or frequency, ongoing diarrhoea, vomiting, changes in appetite or unexplained weight loss should not be ignored.

There isn’t a single magic food or supplement that guarantees good gut health. Instead, it’s about providing good nutrition, fresh water, consistency and appropriate veterinary care.
This Gut Health Awareness Day, give your furry friend a little extra attention — because when their tummy is happy, they’re more likely to feel their best too!
Here’s to healthier tummies and happier tails
