PRIORTISE LOCAL ENTERPRISES: Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi said government ministries should prioritise and support local enterprises, particularly manufacturers. He gave an example that, although there are local companies that manufacture toilet paper, some government entities still place orders from outside the country.
Nekundi said that in accordance with procurement laws, locally owned enterprises must be prioritised in both projects and supplies.
“Therefore, for any procurement, conditions favouring locally based manufacturers must be mandatory. Further, we must ensure that one-third of labourers be hired from the locals in which the project is being implemented,”said Nekundi.
Nekundi made the remarks during a staff address, where he shared insight on key priorities.
