Tourists… firstly, if you choose our fine country to tour in, thank you! But as always, be vigilant, be aware… don’t get ripped off!
Don’t be like tourists in our neighbouring South Africa.
Who doesn’t like a good souvenir (most likely a fridge magnet)?

Something to take back to wherever you’re from and show people so they can go “Wow! Amazing!”
Souvenir Coins are for sale in a shop in Cape Town, and while I myself am not a numismatist, I feel pretty damn sure, tourists are getting ripped off on the price!
So, for R245.00, which in case you didn’t know is N$245.00, you can buy a set of 8 Souvenir Coins from the store!
Again… not an expert, but I think you’re getting ripped off… in fact, I am pretty certain, the shop is making a profit of around R236.12, around N$ 236.12…
How am I so confident? Here’s how!
These 9 coins… these special, amazing, PREMIUM, souvenir coins are made up of the following:
- A South African 1 cent
- A South African 2 cent
- A South African 5 cent
- A South African 10 cent
- A South African 20 cent
- A South African 50 cent
- A South African R1
- A South African R2
- A South African R5

Add those all up, you get R8.88, or N$8.88 for those that need the exchange…
And people fall for it!!! Paying N$ 245 for it!!!

Save yourself the effort of wasting all that money and do the following:
- Go to the ATM, draw some cash, and go buy a pie somewhere… there, a pie and a souvenir for under N$ 245.
