“Drunk Driving” a Drone is a thing!?

DUI aka Driving under the influence. Don’t do it! Please be responsible. There are lift services available for when you want to have a few on a night out!

And safe to say not drinking while operating a vehicle, should pertain to all vehicles:

• Jet Ski
• Motorbike
• Go-Kart
• Unicycle
• Shopping Trolley

And a vehicle, or device rather, I honestly never gave much thought to when it came to being operated under the influence:

In Sweden, in the town Rättvik, they host a classic car week. 7 days for motoring enthusiasts to go and check out, you guessed it, classic cars…

LOTS of opportunity to get behind the wheel while under the influence.

But instead…

A man was charged and fined for operating a drone while under the influence…

The crime classification: flying under the influence.

And fair enough, the Chairman of the district court, Karin Hellmont, explained that: “It’s controlled by someone on the ground and can fall from a great height and harm someone.”

I feel that’s fair… can you imagine come guy, deep in the sauce: “Hey baby, hou my dop en watch hierdie move!!!”

This is where the lesson comes in… since it was likely a VERY FIRST for Sweden, someone prosecuted for flying a drone under the influence, they used the same scale penalty for drunk driving with a car…

The drone operator was fined N$ 54 000 in daily fines… lets just hope he didn’t operate his drone for EVERY day of the 7 day event… Eina!
