Call it destiny, call it coincidence, call it voodoo… this is pretty wild!
And it all starts with a couple kids playing rugby!
It’s the year 2000… Russel Crowe is on the verge of becoming the biggest actor in the world… it’s a few months before the release of his EPIC, OSCAR WINNING ROLE:
- Commander of the Armies of the North
- General of the Felix Legions
- Loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius
- Father to a murdered son
- Husband to a murdered wife
- And he will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
Maximus Decimus Meridius, from the film Gladiator!

In the meantime, he is filming another film “Proof of Life!” There’s a scene where Russel’s character is watching his son play rugby, and though he was filming a movie, Russel Crowe’s attention was on the rugby, coz in case you don’t know… the guy is BIG on Rugby!
So, in between scenes one of the rugby kids comes up to Russel Crowe and asks him how to get into acting… Russel, being the nice guy that he is… has a conversation with the kid and they go their separate ways. Russel also decided to send the kid a signed picture of him as Maximus, with the quote:
- “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!”

(The ACTUAL picture!!!)
And they go their separate ways… Years and years later, Russel is in a gym. And across from him is some random dude also exercising… the random guy comes over:
- “Hello Mr. Crowe… how are you?”
Russel looks at the guy and says “Don’t I know you from somewhere…”
The guy explains that he was the kid on the rugby field… he pursued acting… and would eventually go on to star opposite Russel Crowe in a film.
The film…
The kid all those years ago…
- Henry Cavill aka Superman himself!

Not just that, the 2 will once again be starring opposite one another in the upcoming Highlander film!
