The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has released the results of its annual performance appraisal for the Board of Directors, covering the period from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.

The evaluation was conducted in line with a performance agreement between the CRAN Board and the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, as mandated by the Communications Act and the Public Enterprises Governance Act. These laws guide the oversight and evaluation of public enterprises’ leadership and governance.

According to CRAN spokesperson Mufaro Nesongano, the Board achieved an 83% implementation rate of its strategic initiatives and earned an overall performance rating of 3.86 out of 5.

“We made significant progress in digital transformation, financial sustainability, consumer protection, and regional collaboration,” Nesongano said.

CRAN also rolled out the first phase of NAMSUT, a national initiative aimed at strengthening Namibia’s cybersecurity preparedness. Despite facing policy delays, budget constraints, and procurement challenges, the Board remained focused on its strategic goals, particularly digital inclusion, transparency, and innovation.

This annual appraisal forms part of routine governance and accountability mechanisms to ensure that the authority’s leadership stays aligned with its mandate to promote fair competition, ensure efficient service delivery, and protect the interests of Namibian consumers in the communications sector.
