Bank Windhoek first to accept upgraded banknotes at ATMs
todayJanuary 29, 2026
Bank Windhoek has become the first financial institution in Namibia to allow cash deposits of the newly upgraded Namibia Dollar banknotes through its ATMs. This milestone supports the Bank of Namibia’s ongoing currency modernisation efforts introduced in 2025.
Customers can now deposit the enhanced N$200, N$100, N$50, N$20, N$10, and commemorative N$30 banknotes at select Bank Windhoek ATMs across the country. The upgraded banknotes feature advanced security elements, including colour-shifting inks, embossed and transparent windows, and tactile features for accessibility.
Bank Windhoek Chief Operating Officer Hartwig Rothkegel said the upgrade reflects the bank’s commitment to innovation and customer service. “We are proud to lead the industry in enhancing the way Namibians interact with their money,” he said, noting that the improvements have reduced rejected notes and improved deposit reliability.
The bank continues to roll out upgrades across its ATM network, with updates and locations available on Bank Windhoek’s social media platforms.
