The Weeknd’s latest video is turning heads—and maybe twisting a few minds! On October 30, the 34-year-old artist dropped São Paulo, his new single with Brazilian superstar Anitta, and the accompanying music video is nothing short of Halloween-ready.
In a surreal twist, Anitta stars in the video looking distressed as she wanders through New York in lingerie, with one very unusual companion: a pregnant belly that can sing. I’m not joking …it sings—at one point, the belly even grows lips and starts crooning the Weeknd’s lyrics, all to a backdrop of flashing lights. Directed by avant-garde artist Freeka, with FX by Manny Lemus, the video has viewers captivated and a little spooked by its eerie visuals.
Anitta stirred up even more intrigue by posting a pic on social media , wearing the same wardrobe and showing off the mysterious belly seen in the video. “It was meant to be kept a secret…” she teased in her caption. The Weeknd playfully chimed in with, “Omg… Congrats [crying laughing emoji]” and even reposted the photo, joking, “@Anitta you hid it so well in São Paulo.”
It’s safe to say this duo has given us a visual experience that is as hauntingly freaky and memorable as the track itself.
