The Afrikaans lobby group, Betereinders, has launched a new campaign called “Not USA, But YOU SA,” calling on South Africans to unite in the face of growing tensions between the US and South Africa.
The campaign follows comments made by President Cyril Ramaphosa, who criticised the organisations AfriForum and Solidarity for allegedly spreading divisive narratives to the United States. These groups have been accused of influencing US policy through their portrayal of South Africa’s internal issues.
The co-founder of Betereinders, Johan Erasmus has responded to the criticism, saying that Afrikaners should no longer view themselves as victims. He stressed that the focus should now be on embracing their identity and contributing to the broader unity of the nation.
The “Not USA, But YOU SA” campaign wants to rally South Africans to address internal challenges together rather than letting foreign influence exacerbate existing divisions. Erasmus believes that unity is crucial for the future of South Africa, particularly in these increasingly polarized times.
