Sinners – 16 Oscar Nominations!!!

I know I’m getting older when in a day and age of “CLICK HERE!” and “YOU’LL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED!!!” headlines, I find myself not all enticed by these things.

When I see those things online, there is not an ounce of FOMO running through my veins, as I happily keep scrolling! 

Until now… I NEED to see Sinners!!! 

I regrettably missed it in the cinema and I swear, its because of that, that I am seeing it everywhere! Articles with spoilers, YouTube videos containing spoilers, even friends asking me if I’ve seen it! 

I HAVEN’T! So chill with the spoilers!

Taking a look at the plot of Sinners:

• Sinners follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore, WWI veterans and former mob enforcers, as they return to their Mississippi Delta hometown in 1932 with stolen money to open a juke joint for the Black community, but their plans for a fresh start are shattered when they confront a hidden society of vampires preying on the town, leading to a brutal fight for survival and culture against both supernatural forces and Jim Crow racism, centered around their cousin Sammie’s blues music.

And with Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed) having written, produced, AND directed it, you know we’ve got gold!

Speaking of gold, the announcement came this morning (at the time of writing):

• Sinners has broken the record for the most Oscar nominations for a single film, earning a whopping 16 nominations!!!

I haven’t even seen it, and I already agree with the fact that the film deserves it!

• Best Casting
• Best Cinematography
• Best Film Editing

• Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Absolutely insane!

On a personal note, I’m hoping for a win for first time nominee, Michael B. Jordan in the “Best Actor” category!

But also, as a music nerd, for composer Ludwig Göransson in the “Best Original Score” and “Best Original Song” categories!

Did you know, Ludwig already has 2 Academy awards for music he composed for Black Panther and Oppenheimer! Wouldn’t 2 more just round out the collection nicely!

Another reason I am dying to see Sinners is a cameo by one of my heroes… I don’t know the context in which he appears, but Blues Legend, Mr. Buddy Guy, has a role in the film!

I love Mr. Buddy Guy! And yes, that is Mr. to us all mere mortals!

Sinners, here’s hoping for 2 things:

1. You CLEAN UP at the Oscars!!!
2. I actually get to see the movie before then!!!
