Project Never Walk Alone (PNWA) has launched a three-year plan to provide 31 500 barefooted children across the country with a pair of school shoes. The project will target regions that have not yet benefited from the initiative.
For this year, the project aims to assist 10 000 children in Oshana, //Kharas, Otjozondjupa, and Omusati regions.
According to a media statement, the project plans to assist 11 500 children in Ohangwena Kavango East, Kavango West, and Kunene regions in 2027, with Kavango East receiving 4 000 pairs due to its high number of barefooted children.
By 2028, another 10 000 children will be helped in Ohangwena, Khomas, Kavango East, and Hardap.
PNWA spokesperson, Dr Nangula Mbako, says the project is aware of how the lack of school shoes affects school attendance and confidence. “We know that a simple pair of shoes can make a huge difference in a child’s life, helping them attend school and feel confident every day. We urge all sectors to join us in supporting this mission,” she said.
The initiative is appealing to all sectors of the economy, particularly the fishing and mining sectors, to help raise N$12 920 000 required over the three years to make the project a reality.
