Namibia has strengthened its position in the global fight against money laundering, according to the 2025 Basel Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Index. The country’s score improved from 4.89 in 2024 to 4.78 in 2025, placing it fifth among African nations in terms of low exposure to financial crime risk.
The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) said the improvement reflects stronger national systems, enhanced enforcement, and closer coordination among regulators, law enforcement, and reporting institutions. Acting General Manager for Analysis and Law Enforcement Support, Melintha Fleermuys, highlighted that while progress is steady, continued vigilance is required to strengthen compliance, improve transparency, and support Namibia’s eventual removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.
The ranking demonstrates Namibia’s ongoing commitment to protecting its financial system and aligning with international anti-money laundering standards, thereby supporting the country’s broader goals under the Sixth National Development Plan.
