Oshana Regional Governor Hofni Iipinge has welcomed the launch of Operation Lucia, a community-focused anti-crime campaign initiated by the region’s security cluster under Police Commissioner Naftal Sakaria, and officially inaugurated by the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Hon. Lucia Iipumbu.
The operation kicked off recently with a parade and official opening ceremony held at the Oshana Police Headquarters in Oshakati. From there, the security team proceeded through various hotspots, including Oshakati town, Upindi, and the Oshakati Stadium — areas bustling with youth activities and informal traders.
“We used this opportunity to alert the public that Operation Lucia is in full swing,” Governor Iipinge said. “We encouraged everyone to behave responsibly as part of our mission to further reduce crime in the region.”
Governor Iipinge commended Commissioner Sakaria and the Oshana security cluster for the proactive initiative, adding that the region had already achieved a 12% drop in crime and hopes are now pinned on pushing that number even lower. “We want to bring the crime rate down to 5%, if not eliminate it entirely,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to Minister Iipumbu for lending her support and presence during the launch. “Her participation shows the ministry’s serious commitment to safety and security in our communities.”
Operation Lucia is expected to continue actively across the region. Governor Iipinge urged residents to remain vigilant, support the initiative, and work together with authorities toward a crime-free Oshana.
