Windhoek – Social justice activist Rosa Namises has called on Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi to go beyond rhetoric and present clear, practical strategies to tackle hunger and unemployment. Reacting to the Minister’s recent public address, Namises said the time for abstract promises is over, and what citizens now demand are concrete plans with measurable outcomes.

In a passionate statement shared in the early hours of the morning, Namises emphasized that while Nekundi’s references to “business unusual” and ensuring “no one is left behind” resonate with many, they must be supported by real implementation frameworks. “We are already nearing 100 days of governance by the eighth parliament,” she said, “yet we have not seen a legal or operational strategy for fighting poverty.”

Namises proposed actionable solutions, including the rollout of a basic income grant from birth to age 59, an increase in pension payouts for elders, and a revival of dilapidated school infrastructure through youth-led public works programmes. She highlighted how pairing retired carpenters with unemployed young people could address the backlog of broken school desks and furniture, offering both dignity and income to participants.

She also noted the potential of turning abandoned government vehicles into training grounds for young mechanics and called for the creation of a “workforce army” to rehabilitate government assets while receiving life skills training. “There are so many small but effective steps that can be taken,” she stressed, “and the Ministry of Works is well placed to lead such efforts.”

Namises warned that unless real projects are launched, the next five years could be lost to empty slogans. “We will just keep swimming in rhetoric,” she concluded. “But if Minister Nekundi listens and acts, the people will remember who gave them back their purpose — and their work.”
