The Electricity Control Board (ECB) says eight people died, and five others were hospitalised in 17 incidents involving the electricity supply industry.
Twenty-two people were affected altogether in the past four years.
The electricity industry comprises Cenored, ErongoRed, the City of Windhoek, NamPower, Kameelboom Power Supply and Nored.
NORED accounted for the biggest number of cases, 41%, and 63% of the fatalities.
Cenored, the City of Windhoek and ErongRed had one death each.
ECB CEO Robert Kahimise said they have been closely monitoring incident trends within the ESI, and the number of incidents is rising.
“This trend calls for immediate intervention from both the regulator and ESI licenses to ensure that safety is restored within the industry,” Kahimise said.
Kahimise added that given the high accident rate in the Nored licence area, ECB appointed an independent industry expert to investigate the 2024 fatality incident involving Nored employees, and specific directives were issued to Nored management for implementation.
