Speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, has emphasised the importance of a strong legal framework and effective public institutions to manage resources in Namibia’s burgeoning oil and gas sectors.
She noted that these industries present new opportunities for economic growth, employment, and poverty reduction, but only if managed properly.
“Countries endowed with abundant resources but lacking in proper management often face higher levels of poverty,” she noted.
She added that it is imperative that government puts in place the right laws and institutions to ensure that oil and gas benefits the country optimally.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila was speaking in Windhoek during an Induction and Orientation Seminar in Windhoek for members of the 8th Parliament under the theme: “Fostering Effective and Meaningful Democracy.”
