Miss South Africa happened over the weekend, congratulations to Mia Le Roux.

She is deaf and wears a cochlear implant which, incase you don’t know, was funded by her community. Friends, Family, even strangers rallied together for her as a 2-year-old! Beautiful, amazing, inspiring story!

Buuuuuuuuuut, the REAL focus of Miss South Africa this year was Chidimma Adetshina!!!

She was a Miss SA hopeful who the public started going after!

Turns out people were critiquing her name and appearance saying she seemed to be of Nigerian descent. So, yes her father IS Nigerian, but she was born in SA. Until she wasn’t… The constant public critiquing eventually caused South African Home Affairs to investigate the situation… turns out, her mother who is of Mozambican descent fraudulently acquired the papers to enter South Africa and as such, got Chidimma registered as a South African resident, though it is by NO means her fault.

Also, having used S.A Home Affairs multiple times, my goodness, is this their ONE bit of work done for the year, coz my experience was less… productive…

But, do you think the public cares about the fact that she had nothing to do with it!? No. People are awful, and after the constant hate from the public, Chidimma dropped out the race for Miss SA.

And now, S.A… you lost a great one.

Nigeria, her father’s home country, has opened its doors to Chidimma, and has welcomed her to take part in Miss Nigeria!

And she said yes!!!

Well done to Chidimma! It’s just a shame that this had to happen at all!

The support including that from MANY South africans, is overwhelming!

And kyk nou! If she wins Miss Universe… South Africa will want her to “bring it home!”
