British High Commissioner acknowledges Namibia’s role in the commonwealth

The Dean of Commonwealth Missions in Namibia and British High Commissioner, Charles Moore, has acknowledged Namibia’s significant role within the Commonwealth, particularly as the nation prepares for a historic leadership transition.

Speaking at a Commonwealth gathering in Windhoek on Monday, Moore highlighted the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who will become the fourth female leader currently serving within the Commonwealth.

“This is a significant year for Namibia and the Commonwealth,” Moore stated. “With next week’s inauguration of President-elect Nandi-Ndaitwah, a new chapter begins for both Namibia and the Commonwealth. Together, we thrive.”

Moore also took the opportunity to commend Namibia’s leadership within the Commonwealth, expressing gratitude to parliamentary leaders for their role in strengthening relations between Namibia and the international body.

“Honourable Speaker, allow me to recognise and warmly thank you for all you have done to promote Namibia within the Commonwealth and to promote the Commonwealth within Namibia,” he said. “On behalf of my Commonwealth colleagues gathered here today, I wish you all the very best for the long term.”

Moore acknowledged the broader diplomatic community’s role in fostering collaboration and unity. He reiterated that Commonwealth membership remains open to nations that share its core values and humorously noted that some attendees may have come for the customary Commonwealth cuisine though this year’s event was scaled down due to operational constraints.

The Commonwealth continues to strengthen its ties with Namibia as the country moves forward under new leadership.
