‘Beauty And The Beast’ Roars Past $1B At Worldwide Box Office

Continuing an enchanted dance, Disney’s Beauty And The Beast has waltzed across the $1B global box office threshold, reaching the milestone on Wednesday. The Bill Condon-helmed live-action update on 1991’s animated classic has been in worldwide release since March 16, riding to the $1B point in 29 days.

BATB is the 14th movie for the Mouse to reach the number. It still has Japan to come on April 21, meaning this beauty has still has plenty of rose petals ahead.

Through Wednesday, the domestic total is $438.3M with international box office at $564.1M for a global cume of $1,002.4M. On Wednesday, Mrs Potts and the rest of the castle-dwellers served up a further $6.8M offshore, (representing 19% of the weekend) and $2.4M in North America (10% of the last frame).

The movie was already 2017’s highest-grosser domestically, internationally and worldwide and is also the biggest live-action movie musical of all time. This past weekend, Emma Watson and Dan Stevens’ titular characters helped the Walt Disney Studios clock $1B+ in 2017 overseas receipts.

BATB has maintained strong holds offshore. The Top 5 markets through Wednesday are China ($85.6M), the UK ($76.6M), Brazil ($37M), Korea ($34.4M) and Mexico ($28.8M).
