Former President, Hifikepunye Pohamba has called on the private sector to provide students with internship opportunities for them to learn and earn experience.
The Namibia press agency says that Pohamba, who is the Chancellor of the University of Namibia, made the call during the university’s 2017 graduation ceremony on Thursday. He explained that experiential training at work is important for students studying at various tertiary institutions to complement their education. “It is only possible if both public and private institutions are willing to open their doors for student internships and practical industrial training,” said Pohamba who also told the graduates that leaving university and expecting a job was unreasonable but they should rather graduate with the intention of creating jobs for themselves and employing others.
